Trade Talk: Bright Month For Big Films
The year 2012 has begun and the general belief is that what happens in the first month tends to continue the same trend throughout the year. So, January 2012 becomes crucial for the cine folks. And so far, the month of January 2012 has seen the bright days with success of big films. For starters, the much hyped ‘Businessman’ has set a new record in the history of Tollywood. On the other hand, even ‘Bodyguard’ also proved to be a average grosser.
An unusual surprise has come in the form of Shankar's new release ‘Snehithudu’, the dubbed version of the Tamil film ‘Nanban’. Reports say the film got a positive talk and looks poised for decent collections. In the small budget films, Sagar Chandra's ‘Ayyare’ starring Rajendra Prasad is being received by audience and critics positively. The subject which was taken up by the director and the practical aspects struck a chord with the viewers.
On the flip side, the much talked about ‘Kshetram’ starring Jagapathi Babu and Priyamani has come on Jan 1st but became a failure. Priyamani’s period role as Naga Penchalamma failed to evoke any response from the masses. Even ‘Roudram’, the dubbed film starring Jiiva and Shriya along with Nandamuri Tarakarathna's ‘Nandeeswarudu’ proved to be major duds at the box office.
On a whole, the month of January brought light at box office with the success of big films. Most importantly, the Sankranthi sentiment worked well for the Tollywood folks as both releases scored positively. The fact that few of the other biggies like ‘Adhinayakudu’ ‘Nippu’ etc made way for these films also worked well for the success. Due to this, the festival fervour is still continuing though January has come to an end since February looks promising with few more big ticket flicks.
